Membership Information

If you are one of Tom Brown’s or Jon Young’s students and live in the Greater Cincinnati area, we would love to hear from you!  Membership is free.

Staying in contact with other local "Tracker" students has the following value:

• We motivate each other to put in a little “dirt time” on a regular basis.
• Our learning is compounded by each other’s collective experiences.
• We find out about more cool opportunities to learn and share.
• We motivate each other to actively strive for positive change.

Small groups of us have:

• Spent evenings around a tracking box
• Played stalking games
• Studied bird language
• Tracked in local and regional parks
• Built, and slept in, debris huts
• Gathered wild edibles and prepared dinners
• Stalked fox, deer, and other animals
• Held pipe ceremonies
• Participated in celebrations
• Car pooled to Tracker School classes
• Toured The Red Wolf Sanctuary
• Taken a bow-making workshop 
• Constructed a sweat lodge and participated in sweats
• Practiced skinning and tanning hides
• Introduced groups of children to some of these ancient skills
• Practiced working as tracking and scout teams
• Organized park clean-ups
• Helped Kamana and Tracker School students in other areas organize local groups

To be a member of Cincinnati Trackers, you must have:

1) completed a Tracker School class, 

or
2) completed a Wilderness Awareness School class, 

or
3) completed Level 1 of the Kamana Naturalist Training Program, 

or
4) listened to "Seeing Through Native Eyes", six audio tapes by Jon Young, and read...
        a) either "Tom Brown's Field Guide to Wilderness Survival"
        b) or, "Tom Brown's Field Guide to Nature Observation and Tracking"

The intent is not to be "exclusive" but simply to ensure that members have in common a foundation of specific vocabulary and concepts.  The requirements listed above are an attempt to define this common foundation.  If you have a real interest in this subject matter, you will find these requirements (especially #3 or #4) to be very easy to meet anyway...
