Currently living on 53 wild wonderful acres in West Virginia. |
I have been trained in mechanical engineering and have had a life long
disgust
with rivets. When I take a toy apart assembled with rivets to investigate how
it "TICKS" I am some what challenged to get it adequately reassembled.
Professionally (what I do to pay most of the bills) I work in research and
development for a major chemical company so I get paid to innovate and solve
problems that take less time and resources but I have "LIVED" though
many of the
long routs and they have their merit.
I graduated out of my training wheels (stopped using compound bows) in about
1984 so I have been using "traditional" archery equipment for over 20
years! As
I sought a purer path to hunting I decided in 1992 to harvest a deer with
archery tackle made from local raw material just as the ancestors of the land
(native Americans) did in order to "MAKE MEAT". That milestone came to
pass in
1996! I didn't feel the ground for about a week afterwards. I will have that
same equipment to show you at the next bow class and lead YOU into the skills
that will empower you to do the same.
Carrying a "bent stick" into the woods to provide food for you and
your family
that has been made with your own hands is rewarding beyond words.
Last year's spring Bow class was a great success. And it has only gotten better.
This spring every one in class after the first lecture will literally make
their first wooden bow in 30 minutes or less. No kidding!
After that first bow we will start with the Second bow made of Hickory! So bring
a notebook and camera if you like along with your knife, hatchet, spoke shaves,
and rasps if you got-em and get ready to become a bowyer yourself in just one
fast weekend!
All-good-forage,
Cal Reed
